How to Stop Being a Pushover Forever

The purpose of this article is to give you the actionable advice you need to stop being a pushover forever.

But first, I want you to answer a few questions.

Do you go with the flow even when you don’t want to?

Do you reluctantly say “yes” when you really want to say “no”?

Are you afraid of conflict?

If you answered “yes” to the above, then you are a pushover.

What is a pushover?

how to stop being a pushover

To stop being a pushover, you must first recognize how and why you let people walk all over you.

A pushover is someone who is easy to overcome or influence. In general, a pushover:

  • is constantly being taken advantage of
  • never stands up for his or herself
  • always seems to be on the losing end of every situation
  • would rather do something they don’t want to do because they want to avoid conflict

It’s not that they are unable to act because they have the ability to change their circumstances at any time.

No. A pushover is someone who refuses to act.

Time and time again, they get treated like a human doormat and what do they do? NOTHING.

Being a pushover means that you are weak because if you were strong, you would not let others walk all over you.

Pushovers display weakness which is why other people see them as targets. They see a pushover and immediately think EASY.

Pushovers get zero respect from society because they refuse to respect themselves.

Here are a few examples of how society views the pushover:

How the Bully Views The Pushover– “He’s scared. I can push him around and do whatever I want because he won’t do a thing!”

How the Boss Views The Pushover– “He’s fine. He won’t be a problem. He’s my go-to-guy to run errands and work on the weekends.”

How a Group of Friends Views the Pushover– “We can’t all be winners. Someone has to be left behind.”

How the Girl Views Her Pushover Boyfriend– “I’m just going to do what I want. Maybe I’ll even lie. So what. Even if he finds out, he’s not going to leave me or something.”

Pushovers willingly sign up for a life of fear, humiliation, and heartbreak. However, there is hope.

If you are a pushover, I have great news for you because you are about to learn how to stop being a pushover in 10 easy steps.

1) Respect yourself.

respect yourself stop being a pushover

Stop being a pushover. Respect yourself FIRST.

There’s an old saying that goes like this: You have to give respect to get respect.

This advice is 100% correct. However, most people misinterpret this because they think this means that they must give others respect.

Wrong. You must give yourself respect first.

Then, you may show others respect.

Self-respect is the key word here.

You are not a loser. No one is “above” you.

You are a winner so start treating yourself like one.

2) Refuse to be weak.

To stop being a pushover, you must make the decision to stop being weak.

You must refuse weakness.

Weakness is not just a word, it is a disease. So you should treat it as such.

Eliminate the word from your thoughts, words, and actions.

Most of all, eliminate it from your personal brand.

3) Be big and strong.

stop being a pushover get big and strong

The easiest way to eliminate weakness from your personal brand is to become big and strong.

When you are big and strong, no one thinks you are weak, which is why you are significantly less likely to be viewed as a pushover.

In general, pushovers tend to possess the following physical traits:

  • smallness
  • frailness
  • weakness

So if you want to stop being a pushover forever, you cannot look the part.

That means you must become big a strong.

To get big and strong in as little amount of time as possible, nothing compares to The Strength By Sonny Pure Strength (“Hurtin’ Bombs”) Program.

It includes all the best exercises for building both size and strength.

4) Be sharp. Avoid sloppiness.

If you want to stop being a pushover, you must stop looking sloppy and start looking professional.

Sloppiness is a fourth physical trait you can add to the pushover stereotype.

People who look physically sloppy are more likely to be pushed around because of point #1.

Sloppy individuals do not respect themselves. As with weakness, you must avoid sloppiness at all costs and be sharp at all times.

Society looks at 3 different metrics when deciding whether an individual is sloppy or sharp:

1. Overall Hygiene

Hair- You must have a sharp haircut.

Facial Hair- Trim your facial hair. Neck beards and peach fuzz signify sloppiness.

Scent- No one likes a smelly individual. Regularly bathe and wear cologne. This is my favorite cologne.

2. Clothes/shoes

Sloppily dressed individuals deserve the ZERO respect they get.

Your clothes must be three things: clean, form fitting, and ironed. Shoes should be regularly polished.

3. Physique

You physique should be lean and mean.

Fat/bloated = SLOPPY

Skinnyfat = SLOPPY

You want to look professional because this will force people to treat you seriously.

The Of Tyrants & Tellers Diet is the fast-ticket to looking the part because it will get you lean in 6 weeks.

A lean body and a lean face is often the difference maker between pushover and professional.

5) Make strong eye contact.

stop being a pushover like Milton

Stop being a pushover like Milton from Office Space. Make eye contact. Speak loud and clear.

To stop being a pushover forever, you must eliminate all aspects of fear from your persona.

One of the tell-tale signs of a fearful individual is the inability to make eye contact.

The eyes are the window to the soul. Well, what does it mean if you cannot look people in the eye and hold eye contact?

It means you have no soul. It means you have zero fight in you.

If eye contact is difficult for you, practice making eye with yourself in the mirror several times a day.

6) Speak loud and clear.

Milton from the movie Office Space is one of the most iconic pushovers in cinematic history.

His character was pushed around time and time again for one simple reason. He did not speak loud and clear.

Individuals who are regularly pushed around are often already at a physical disadvantage (see above) which is why it is crucial for them to speak loud and clear.

Speaking loud and clear is the foundation of good communication because it shows that you are not afraid to use your voice.

7) No is a complete sentence.

say no stop being a pushover

Stop being a pushover and just say “no.”

This a major key to success.

For some people, this is life changing advice that is so simple and yet clears up a lot of things.

NO is a complete sentence.

“Yes” and “maybe” are not the only answers. There is a third answer: no.

When someone asks you to do something, you can say no. Imagine that!

And when they ask, “Why not?”

Because I said no.

8) Don’t run from conflict. Never back down down.

If you are a pushover, you want to know how to make your “bully” really uncomfortable?

Do not run from conflict. Do not back down. If needed, push back.

There is one thing more uncomfortable than a pushover being pushed around and that is when the pushover decides to push back.

Society at large is uncomfortable with conflict because people don’t like it when they have a wrench thrown in the machine.

Change frightens them.

To stop being a pushover once and for all you must stand up for yourself.

Refuse to let people push you around and belittle you.

Above all, welcome conflict.

Savor it. This is your time to perform and shine.

These are mediocre, colorless times. Make life exciting.

Conflict is an opportunity to grow. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to kill the fear once and for all (not to mention put people in their place).

9) Always be aware of your surroundings.

Pushovers are often unaware of their surroundings which is why they are often easy targets for crime.

To stop being a pushover forever, you must be aware of your surroundings.

When you are aware of your surroundings, it is more difficult for people to take advantage of you.

So don’t look down. Always keep your eyes up to maintain awareness of your environment.

10) Read Of Tyrants & Tellers

stop being a pushover forever read Of Tyrants & Tellers

Of Tyrants & Tellers is the ultimate book for people (men in particular) who are tired of being pushed around and want to do something about it.
