This is the final part of the Strength By Sonny 2015 Transformation.

The following is a list of all of my best practices and important accessories that I use in the gym.

Hotter = Better

Yes, I do everything I can to train in the heat. There are numerous benefits to training in the heat: – stimulates muscle fibers – makes you sweat more (sweats out the toxins) – makes your heart beat faster – reduce muscular strains and fatigue – mental edge *** NOTE: I did ease up on this practice more than usual this summer because there were times when it was over 120 degrees Fahrenheit!!! Here are some of the accessories I used to turn up the heat: Long sleeve shirts are awesome because they keep your entire upper body heated and make you sweat more. Serious athletes and trainers know that keeping everything tight is important because it reduces the risk of injury and enables optimal performance. Do everything you can to protect your joints and wrap everything.

The time to start worrying about “old man problems” such as joint preservation is right now, not when you’re 50. By then it will be too late.

The best cure for the majority of physical ailments is early preventive measures.

Some people might look at you funny when they see you wearing elbow, wrist, and knee wraps. However, the tables will likely be turned decades down the road when you’ve minimized the wear and tear on your joints while they chose not to take preventive measures.

It’s simply not natural for people to be benching and squatting heavy weights. Our joints were not built for doing those kinds of lifts in the long run.

As a result, you need to take the necessary steps now to ensure that you can train intense and maintain joint health to the best of your ability.

Here are the accessories I use to insure this:

Wrist wraps protect your wrists. They keep that area tight so that they do not get strained on heavy presses and curls.

The best way to prevent weak elbows (or at least hold it off for as long as possible) is to start taking the necessary steps NOW. That means keeping the area tight by using elbow wraps on heavy presses.

Once your knees are done… they’re done. So it’s in your best interest to take the necessary precaution by wrapping your knees anytime you do heavy squats or deadlifts.

Guard your grill.

There are a lot of benefits to wearing a mouth guard in the gym. Here are the main ones: 1. Many people have a habit of grinding their teeth when they lift. This makes you susceptible to chipping or cracking your teeth. If you have this habit, wearing a mouth guard should protect your teeth from grinding down on each other. 2. It strengthens the jaw muscles. Over time you can develop a more powerful jaw which improves facial aesthetics. *** I think it also gives me a mental edge. You feel like you have a bit of a safety net by biting down on something. It’s not uncommon for people to lift heavier weights and actually feel stronger when they first start using a mouth guard. Get a grip.

This year was also the first year I got back in to using chalk on heavy lifts. However, unlike years past, I did not use weightlifting chalk. Instead, I used something called Liquid Grip. It feels like your squirting toothpaste on your hands (a little more grainy) but in reality it really enhances your grip. Liquid grip is better than weightlifting chalk for the following reasons: 1. It’s not nearly as messy. 2. It gives you a better grip than traditional weightlifting chalk. 3. It’s easy and fun to apply. *** Seriously, once you try this stuff you will never touch weightlifting chalk again. Click the link to purchase: Liquid Grip 8-Ounce Bottle

Cryotherapy is the best thing I’ve come across in years.

Cryotherapy has been so helpful in helping me recover and feel rejuvenated. I couldn’t picture myself without it now.

Any aches/pains you have will be gone after standing in a cryosauna for three minutes.

As a bonus, you can also do localized treatment such as cryofacials to make your face look good for the hunnies 🙂
