The Competitive Spirit

38 Badass Affirmations That Will Fuel Your Competitive Spirit

If you say it enough, YOU will make it true.

An affirmation is a positive statement that can condition your subconscious mind to help you develop a more positive perception of yourself. They absolutely work. And if you repeat them enough (out loud or in your head), they will come true.

They can help you eliminate negative thinking and overcome a negative self-perception. They help you focus on the mountaintop and ignore all the possible ways you can fall to your death.

When you doubt yourself, they instill confidence. When you feel weak they make you strong. When you want to give up, they will not let you.

Most importantly, powerful affirmations are essential to the development of the competitive spirit. They turn Johns into Dons. They make life simple because they narrow down the choices to that all important question of “What do I want?”

With the help of affirmations, the answers straddle along the lines of either MORE or BETTER.

The only way to get MORE or BETTER is to push yourself until you get it. The competitive spirit is your driving force behind that. And you are in charge of your competitive spirit.

It listens to you. So make sure you are constantly pumping it up. Negative thinking puts out that fire. Positive, inspirational statements fuel it. Here are 38 badass affirmations that will fuel your competitive spirit:

1) I am a fucking machine.

2) I am a fucking monster.

3) I am King Kong.

4) I am a nasty motherfucker.

5) I am a competitor.

6) No one can outwork me.

7) I am made of IRON.

8) My soul is made of steel.

9) I will get one more.

10) I am unstoppable.

11) I am going to get what I want.

12) I got this.

13) I will not give up.

14) If I do the bare minimum, I did something wrong.

15) I conquer goals.

16) I destroy limits.

17) They don’t want none of this.

18) I’m a bad motherfucker.

19) I am a beast.

20) I am strong.

21) I am a fucking animal.

22) No one does what I do.

23) I am fearless.

24) No one can beat me.

25) I am a grown ass man.

26) I will handle it.

27) I am a fucking workhorse.

28) I got heart.

29) I am in control.

30) I will find a way.

31) I live for this.

32) I am not done yet.

33) I will make it happen.

34) I got ice in my veins.

35) I’m the top dawg.

36) I am destined to become a somebody.

37) I am going to make it.

38) This is my time.

What is the best way to use this list?

Obviously, you should not try to memorize all 38 of these. The last thing you want is to have 38 different things floating around in your head.

My advice is to go through the list and pick 3-5 statements that really do it for you. The 3-5 statements that energize you and make you want to punch a hole through the wall. Those are the ones that hit home. Those are YOURS.

Go write those down on a piece of paper and put them somewhere you can see them every day. Above your desk. On your bathroom mirror. Wherever. Just make it so that those statements are shoved in your face every day.

The statements will begin to stick over time. Say them out loud when you are alone. Repeat them in your head whenever you can. More is better.

The guy who constantly thinks “I’m a loser. Why am I a loser?”… That guy is usually a loser. And the guy who is always thinking how much of a beast he is? That guy is usually a one man wrecking crew bulldozing through life.

 “I am a competitor.”

That is the one statement that should be on everyone’s list. You are either a competitor who is constantly hustling his ass off for something or you are a regular guy just going through the motions.

If you want to actually self-improve and get noticeable results, you have to take action. Otherwise, you’re just another forum junkie who spends his days theorizing with strangers and buying self-development books that end up collecting dust.

It’s very simple. Become a competitor who is hell-bent on getting what he wants. Take a look at this guy:

That is LeBron James during Game 6 of the 2012 NBA Eastern Conference Finals. That was arguably his greatest career performance to date. With the Heat facing elimination in Boston, James torched the Celtics for 45 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists.

Take a look at him. That is a competitor. That is a guy who is one with his competitive spirit. He’s a monster. He will destroy anyone that gets in his way. There was no way he was going to let the Heat lose that night in Boston.

I bet I can guess some of the stuff that was going on in his head at the time. A lot of his internal dialogue could probably be found on that list. You better believe LeBron was thinking to himself “I am unstoppable” and “This is my time.”

Whatever he was saying to himself, it was all rooted in that one affirmation… “I am a competitor.”

You get what you want by becoming a competitor.

That’s what you have to be to get what you want. It’s very rare that the Universe will just lay everything out there on a silver platter for you. If you bank on what is being given to you, then prepare for an unfulfilled life.

I have said it once and I will say it again. You are going to have desires throughout the course of your life.

As a guy, you are going to want money, power, and women. You do not get those by keeping your head down and playing with the cards you were dealt. And you do not get it by spending countless hours reading about the experiences of others.

You get it by becoming a competitor… one who competes against his fellow man and more importantly, himself.

Competitors are the ones who get results because they have desires and are not afraid to go after them. They don’t care. They know what needs to be done and they do it.

Excuses and even discouragement from those closest to you may cause some doubts… but that’s where your badass affirmations come into play.

Well congrats to the Spurs… just an all around better team that smoked the Heat this year.

Curious what Bron will do next or what Pat Riley has planned… big moves need to be made.

Yup.. Lebron said it himself. It ain’t about the individual..it’s a team sport.

Idk if the big three should finally split up or try for one more season.

          D-wade was absolutely atrocious.

Lebron (his team) is unstoppable when he is bulldozing his way to the rim…. either taking it to the hole himself or throwing a bullet pass to a teammate for the uncontested 3.
When Miami won 27 straight in 2013… that’s pretty much what they did. Difference was they were draining those shots.
Lebron did that a lot this series as well but nobody was hitting anything.

Lebron can go anywhere he wants. I think Lakers are out (Kobe) and Bulls are out (MJ’s ghost and Noah is there).
Cavs could work but they’ve proven nothing yet… Horrible management that continues to fuck up on lottery picks (they picked Anthony Bennett for God’s sake). Only plus is having Kyrie.

Personally, I would love to see him on the 76er’s. Very young athletic team that can run the floor. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Charlotte Hornets either. They got some talent there and Charlotte’s an up and coming city with a lot of banks headquartered there. Financially/branding it would be a good move. Plus, North Carolina is a basketball state. They live for the game there.

The Knicks could work (even without Melo). I’m a big fan of Tim Hardaway Jr. I think he’s underrated. If Lebron were to ever bring a championship to the Knicks it would be worth a lot more… Nothing compares to winning in New York City.

He can’t do the same thing twice (go to another team with future HOF’s)… that would wreck his brand. He’s needs to either stick it out in Miami (and hope Pat Riley get’s a PG and young role players) or go somewhere else and lead a team of young bucks and make them better.

Only way he can compete with Jordan now is by doing something Jordan never did… leading multiple teams to multiple championships/taking a shitty franchise and making it into a championship team.

*** I have heard through the grapevine that his kids are enrolled to attend school back in Cleveland next year so that could mean something.

You stole the words right out of my mouth.. He should not join any team with HOFs.. Fuk no..

The spurs completely shut us down! Dwane wade, shooting 3 – 11 .. Bosh, 4 rebounds. Good God! (Game 4 that is..) we had no center that could grab rebounds and score/defend it the post.. No point guard that could score/pass..and the fact that their big 3 is much older. I can’t..

He’s got to pack his bags . I’m taking nothing away from him though. He in a class of his own. Back to back championships.. He doesn’t have to score 80 like Kobe but he can pass like a point, score like a shooting guard e.t.c (weve all heard it all). But I think his goal is to make his teammates play better, quite interesting that you mentioned him going to Philly. That’s could be a good move.. They’re def up and coming and they’ve got the cash at hand.

Staying at miami will cost us too much and as a die hard miami fan, I think its high time the bandwagoners left. Tired of giving high fives and fist bumps to mfukers that don’t know who Mario Chalmers is.

He should def join a better all round team..maybe even go back to ohio if the rumors turn out to be true..

Everyone Gotta give king James props and finally stop comparing him to Jordan.

          • June 18, 2014 at 5:54 am

Pelicans would be interested too with Anthony Davis

          • June 22, 2014 at 8:59 pm

I do think Lebron needs to drop some weight though. He’s getting older and that 30-40 lbs of mass he has added since his rookie year is not good for the knees.

There definitely a noticeable difference in speed/athleticism from his Cleveland days.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VrXo-5rsx8

check out the break away dunk at 21 sec in…. That’s insane speed/power. Lebron don’t have that pop like that anymore.

            Damn. Lebron was straight cookin!

One thing I noticed in comparison to Kobe is that Kobe has been relatively lean through out his career.. No huge fluctuations.

I’m actually debating wether I myself wanna build a bodybuilder physique overtime or just stay lean and athletic..any pros and cons on which is better?

          • June 23, 2014 at 5:16 am

Yea… Kobe likely stuck with the less harsh juice. It’s very obvious that Lebron is on a laundry list of shit (def OD’d on HGH past few years…. signs of acromegaly in forehead and feet).

Lean and athletic is just universally more appealing and less intimidating.

Being a big jacked dude is not always ideal…. def works against you in the professional world because managers when they interview you recognize that they probably cannot intimidate you/make you their bitch and they definitely don’t want to be the guy to have to fire you.

One way I got around that was by dumbing myself down (making myself appear less intimidating) by a lot…. Any interview I go into I try to exaggerate “the Asian” as much as possible. I completely shave my beard, try to make my voice as soft spoken, tone down the eye contact to appear less sure of myself/controllable, and I wear glasses haha.

Lmao.. I can’t picture you wearing glasses and acting like a nerd. This is too funny.

Sheesh!. I didn’t know all these athletes be juicing like that.

You’re right about the intimidation.. After putting on some muscle, some girl I knew walked up to me and straight up said, “omg, you’ve changed..you’re kinda scary” (I’m only 190 @ 10% lol)

          • June 23, 2014 at 7:02 pm

Yea man drugs are in all sports and used at every level… including the high school level.

Intimidation is good with chicks…. as long as you got basic social skills too.

Nice article, it’s raw and aggressive as fuck. One of my favourite quotes is “As you think, so shall you become” (Bruce Lee) and it is one of the most important and truest things I have ever come to understand about life. This is why affirmations are so powerful, because in order to create something in your life, anything really, you first have to create it in your mind. I’m really liking how your site is shaping up so far man, keep it up.

    Nice article Sonny,

I find myself doing this all the time before a big lift except I use the second person instead of the first: “You’re a fucking beast, you’re a fucking animal, a machine, this is what you live for”. If there’s a mirror in front of me I’m looking myself in the eye as I do.
